Armin Strom Lady Beat, A women’s watch designed by women

The Lady Beat is the very first model created specifically for women by the Armin Strom Manufacture.

Finally, a no-compromise Haute-horology watch designed for a feminine sensibility. The latest watch from the independent Swiss brand Armin Strom, still relatively unknown in France, transforms the brand’s typical movement, dial, and case to give birth to its Lady Beat, a 38mm “horological” watch in steel. A première for Armin Strom.

Many independent brands are turning to women’s watches, where there is real growth potential, depending on the markets around the world … Latest? Armin Strom, an independent Swiss brand (Biel-Bienne) launched ten years ago and is still largely unknown in the French market. Little known and very little distributed.

Visually, this Lady Beat features an off-center dial and a new, slimmer case with a much smaller diameter than the men’s. This is indeed 38 mm, a first for Armin Strom who, for this feminine novelty, called on women to create it.

On the dial side, this watch emphasizes its trio of bridges, which takes its inspiration from the pocket watch from which the ALA20 caliber derives, and this is just one of the many mechanical elements visible on the dial.

“This watch has a lot more to reveal than what is usually offered to women,” explains Claude Greisler, one of the brand’s bosses. Our passion for visible mechanics (note: the brand has always specialized in skeletons) is also evident at first glance, here “.

Furthermore, it should be noted that this Lady Beat can be personalized in terms of colors and other elements in the online configurator of Armin Strom. “We know that colors are very important for women, develops Claude Greisler, so we offer a very large choice”.

The watch is wound automatically: the visible micro-rotor, resulting from Gravity Equal Force, has been redeveloped in the form of a large central rotor on the back, to guarantee more winding power and longer reserve Steps.

Claude Greisler and the two designers very quickly agreed on a watch with soft shapes: the normally very classic handles of an Armin Strom watch were put aside in favor of an integrated strap and the overall appearance shows several circles. and semi-circles instead of the angular shapes generally associated with this typically masculine watch.

“These soft shapes, reminiscent of the Moon, fit into the concept of this watch,” says Greisler. Upon closer inspection, you’ll see a half-moon main plate that shares the lower level of the watch with the mechanical elements, while a full moon-shaped sub-dial is positioned above it.

Another example of the choice of softness: the dial no longer bears numbers, but a reduced logo which at the same time acts as a 12-hour marker. The screws that hold the patented curved dial to the plate remain visible. Note the absence of a secondhand.

On the dial, the balance is visible with its hypnotic rotations; it practically occupies the position of honor on the dial. As for the indications, they are off-center, as is often the case with Armin Strom. They are therefore less visible than the very heart of the watch.

Also, the team removed the ingenious elements of the stopper disengagement mechanism and motorized barrel design, created to transmit equal force to the balance wheel of the Gravity Equal Force movement, to minimize the height of the movement. movement of the Lady Beat and retain the finesse of its dimensions.
